For this recent job in Manukau, the homeowner wanted to replace their existing electric cooktop with a gas hob. Gas gives the cook more immediate heat control, which is useful when changing temperatures quickly or cooking with several pans at once.
The finished installation keeps the new hob neatly within the existing benchtop area. The photo also shows the new yellow gas supply being routed through the cabinet below before the appliance was fully connected and commissioned.
What an electric to gas hob conversion involves
Converting an electric hob to gas takes more than changing the appliance. A Gasfitter first checks whether natural gas or LPG is available and confirms that the proposed hob, pipe route, ventilation and clearances are suitable for the kitchen.
The work can include running a correctly sized gas line, fitting an accessible isolation valve, connecting the appliance and checking the benchtop opening. Every connection must then be pressure tested before the hob is lit and commissioned.
